unit stock

unit stock
a population of fish, either of one or a number of species, grouped together for assessment purposes which may or may not include all the fish in a stock. The fish occupy a particular area and live independently of other populations of the species; an arbitrary grouping of populations large enough to be self-reproducing and showing similar patterns of growth, migration and dispersal
